1 Lisle Finish
The fabric is treated in a weak solution of sulphuric or hydrochloric acid and then dried before washing out the acid. The fabric is then placed in a machine that exposes it to the air and heated to about 100 deg. F. After a time the loose ends and fuzzy fibres become brittle and break off in the tumbling given to the fabric by the machine. When the proper finish is obtained the fabric is cooled and washed in an alkaline bath which stops the action of the dry acid and neutralises it. After thorough washing in water it is dried and the fabric is ready for dyeing. ———————— A finish given to yarns that are to be used for hosiery or underwear. See Lisle Thread.
